Course content
|
1. Application of the theoretical knowledge acquired in the courses Morphology and Syntax for Pupils with a Different First Language I and II to the teaching of Czech as a foreign language. 2. Declension - nominal inflection; the grammatical categories of gender, number, and case. Formal and informal forms of address (vykání and tykání). 3. Inflected parts of speech - selected issues; in the case of verbs, for example, conjugation, verbal mood, aspect, passive voice, and verbs of motion. 4. Modal verbs; the conjugation and functions of mít rád ("to like") and rád ("glad/willing to"). 5. Uninflected parts of speech. 6. Word formation (derivation) - common nouns and surnames, nationality terms, the formation of adjectives and adverbs, comparison of adjectives and adverbs, and the derivation of adverbs from adjectives. 7. Sentence structure - word order, interrogative sentences, and sentence formation. 8. Selected issues related to complex sentences. 9. Inductive and deductive approaches to presenting grammatical content. 10. Comparison of the morphological and syntactic systems of selected foreign languages with Czech. 11. Comparison of the morphological and syntactic systems of selected foreign languages with Czech. 12. Comparison of the morphological and syntactic systems of selected foreign languages with Czech. 13. Presentation of seminar papers and course evaluation.

Learning outcomes
|
Student applies the theoretical knowledge acquired in the courses Morphology and Syntax for Pupils with a Different First Language I and II to the teaching of Czech as a foreign language. Student is able to explain the principles of Czech declension to pupils with a different first language. Student is able to explain the principles of Czech conjugation to pupils with a different first language. Student is able to develop an appropriate progression of grammatical content. Student is able to respond effectively to learners' grammatical errors. Student understands the basic differences between the grammatical systems of common European languages, particularly English, German, and Russian, and where relevant, Ukrainian.
