Learning outcomes
Students acquire basic knowledge of German-speaking countries, i.e. the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. In lectures and seminars students learn about areas such as politics and the political system, economy, culture and society (media, population structure, education system, etc.) and focus on understanding the current state of affairs as a result of historical developments in European and global contexts. During the preparation of their own presentations and the elaboration of a group project, they learn about current political, cultural and economic events in the German-speaking world and gain an overview of high-quality sources of information on the above-mentioned topics. They will present and discuss their results in seminars. Lectures and seminars will be held in German.
The students are familiar with the general principles according to which German-speaking countries work. They will receive the necessary basic overview for future teachers of important areas of the social and cultural life of these countries, which will serve as a basis for further lifelong self-education in these areas. Due to the nature of the subject, this training is an absolute necessity for teachers of German as a foreign language. Students are also familiar with current sources, learn to search for and critically analyze them (e.g. important daily newspapers and magazines, official press releases, Internet sources, etc.).
Prerequisites
Knowledge of German language (at least B1+).
