Learning outcomes
Objectives Teaching in the subject "Lexicology for Practice" is divided into lectures and seminars. The aim of the lectures is to familiarize students with the theoretical foundations of lexicology and its subdisciplines. In the seminars, students will effectively and systematically expand their vocabulary in the fields of semantics (polysemy, synonymy, antonymy, homonymy, hyperonymy, hyponymy), onomasiology (territorial duplicates), phraseology and lexicography. Students will learn word formation techniques that will help them to better understand vocabulary and form words more easily. They will be able to find analogies in other European languages so that they are well prepared to teach multilingual students. Lectures and seminars will be held in German.
Learning achievements Upon completion of the course, students are sufficiently familiar with lexicology and its sub-disciplines. In addition to the theoretical foundations of this language discipline, they have a practical command of neologisms, buzzwords, variants of individual varieties of the German language, borrowings, loan words, widely used foreign words and internationalisms. In written and oral speech, the use of so-called "faux amis" is avoided. Students are familiar with the vocabulary of certain social groups on the margins. They can determine metaphor, metonymy, synekdoche or homonymy. They can form a synonym, an antonym, a hyperonym or a hyponym. Students learn language units. They will deepen their ability to form words and learn the procedures for word formation.
