Course content
1. Introductory lesson 2. The ideals of Greek culture: beauty and arete 3. Beauty and kosmos 4. Measure and harmony 5. Mimesis I 6. Mimesis II 7. The beautiful and the sublime I 8. The beautiful and the sublime II 9. The picturesque 10. Taste I 11. Taste II 12. Grace 13. The aesthetic of ugliness

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The course will introduce students into the development of western aesthetics from the pre-Socratics to the 20th century, while focusing on the transformations of main aesthetic categories. A special attention will be paid to the philosophical dimension of the most influential aesthetic theories together with their literary-historical and art-historical context.
