Course content
Lectures: Classification of plants of interest and plant breeding systems. Plant breeding - nutrition and plant growth. Plant breeding - propagation. Plant breeding - diseases and pests. Orchid cultivation. Growing succulents and xerophytes. Growing carnivorous plants. Growing tillandsias and bromeliads. Growing citrus and geraniums. Cultivation of aquarium plants. Growing ornamental garden plants. Cultivation of woody plants. Summary of knowledge and skills acquired. Tutorials: The exercises include active participation in two full-day excursions to facilities focused on the cultivation of plants of interest (e.g. Botanical Garden Třeboň, Dendrological Garden Průhonice).

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the principles of cultivation of non-productive plants and to the system, biology and ecology of plant groups of interest.

Credit requirements: - Obtaining at least 60% of the points in the credit test. The subject of the credit is the identification of the species discussed in the course (="cognitive test"). Examination requirements: - The subject of the examination is the knowledge of the subject matter of the course on the basis of lectures/consultations and the required study literature within the given scope. The exam is written. A minimum pass mark of 60% is required to pass the exam. Advanced knowledge of non-productive plant production techniques with emphasis on interest groups.
