Content of lectures: Milanković cycles and their influence on our planet. Energy distribution on Earth and its unbalanced dynamics leading to climate changes of different hierarchical levels. Changes in Earth's biomes during the Quaternary cycle. The emergence of novel ecosystems and the extinction of species. Fundamentals of Quaternary geology and sedimentology. Historical biogeography and the concept of refugia. Periodization of the Holocene according to different points of view. Basic trends and significant turning points in the development of the cultural landscapes of Central Europe. Technologies that changed the world. The concept of the Anthropocene as the way we think about the world. Deep roots of the current (anthropocene) situation. Current climate change, its causes and place in environmental history.
