Learning outcomes
The main purpose is to learn about the historical development of the landscape throughout the geological period, with emphasis on the Quaternary period. The evolution of the landscape is presented from the perspective of human participation and its influence on the landscape, in a European context and context. It discusses both the development itself and the importance and use of methods in paleoecological reconstructions. The course is divided into three parts, presenting a) the shaping of contemporary landscapes from the earliest historical periods, b) the methodological principles of the field, and c) the interconnectedness of natural processes and human culture in the process of shaping contemporary ecosystems.
Students will receive comprehensive information on the development of landscape and nature, including the development of human cultures from the Paleolithic to the present. They will understand the importance of the anthropogenic element and its formative influence on the appearance and structure of the landscape. The lecture is quite eclectic, it includes knowledge from several fields, such as archeology and paleoecology, but also archaeobotany and zoology.
