Course content
|
1. Introduction to Health Informatics and Information Resources (2 hours) Definition and importance of health informatics, history and development of the field, current trends and challenges in health informatics. Overview of health information systems (HIS), the Ministry of Health Data Standard (DSMZ), the National Codebook of Laboratory Items (NČLP), and the structure and significance of these information resources. DSMZ and its role in healthcare institutions; NČLP: purpose and use in laboratory practice. 2. Computer Applications in Healthcare (2 hours) DSMZ: functions and applications; NČLP: integration with LIS and NIS; Laboratory Information Systems (LIS); Hospital Information Systems (NIS). Integration and interoperability: integration of various systems in healthcare institutions and the importance of interoperability for the efficient functioning of healthcare systems. 3. Introduction to Bioinformatics (2 hours) Definition and history of bioinformatics, key terms and concepts. Applications of bioinformatics: bioinformatics tools and databases, with examples of applications in clinical practice and research. 1. Health Information Systems and Their Applications (2 hours) Functions and types of health information systems (HIS), electronic health records (EHR), hospital management systems (NIS), laboratory information systems (LIS), and the National Health Information System (NZIS). 2. Creation and Management of Laboratory Item Codebooks (2 hours) Definition and importance of local codebooks, steps for creating a local codebook. Development and maintenance of a local codebook. 3. Practical Exercises and Final Summary (2 hours) Case studies and problem-solving using the concepts learned, simulation of working with health information systems and codebooks. Final summary and discussion: review of key concepts, open discussion and student questions, course evaluation and feedback.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to key information resources in healthcare, including health information systems, the Ministry of Health Data Standard, and the National Codebook of Laboratory Items, with an emphasis on their structure and practical use. The course also aims to develop skills in creating local codebooks of laboratory items, provide an overview of relevant computer applications (DSMZ, NČLP, LIS, and NIS), and establish a foundation in the basics of bioinformatics.
