Course content |
1. Overview of basic function of adaptive and innate immunity, immune cells, regulation of immune system. 2. Innate immunity characterization of pathogen associated molecular pattern (PAMPs) and danger associated molecular pattern (DAMPs) as a basic triggers of immune reaction. 3. Receptors involved in recognition of PAMPs-their classification, structure and specificity (TLR, NLR, RLR, CLR), effector mechanisms of innate immunity -phagocytosis, other receptors on cells of innate immunity (scavanger and complement receptors). 4. Receptors on T and B lymphocytes and their activation by antigen, class I and II MHC molecules, presentation of antigenic peptides, effector mechanism of acquired immunity. 5. Classification and features of T lymphocytes, polarization of immune response. 6. Signaling through immune system receptors - general principles of signal transduction. 7. Signaling in innate immunity and inflammation. 8. Antigen receptor signaling, cytokines receptors and their activation. 9. Development of B and T lymphocytes, rearrangement of receptor genes. 10. Adhesive molecules and recirculation of lymphocytes. 11. Design of experiments for study of immune response to infection.

This course will introduce molecular mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity. It will provide an essential grounding for the understanding of the complex cellular interactions of the immune response.
