Course content
Lectures: 1.Introduction - reasons for the threat to animal and plant species, historical development of the exploitation of animals and plants 2.Trade in endangered species (volume, sources, routes, methods, types of people, possibilities of regulation, context and risks, etc.) 3.CITES Convention - meaning and principles. Legislation - international and EU law, national legislation of the Czech Republic in relation to endangered species 4.Identification marking of CITES specimens 5.Control and enforcement - conducting inspections, detection methods, risk analysis, investigation, seizure, sanctions, international cooperation, etc. 6.Special forensic methods in relation to wildlife crime, involvement of experts in investigations 7.Protection of endangered species and its various methods in practice. Tutorials: CITES trade database, its possibilities and pitfalls. Trade assessment, trends, flows.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the complex subject of rules for the acquisition, possession and trade in endangered species, methods of trade control and enforcement.

Credit for the submission of a seminar paper. Exam minimum pass rate of 75% in the test. Knowledge of the rules of trade in endangered species, their monitoring, identification of commodities, control authorities and their role, legislation.
