Course content
Lectures: Origin and development of legal regulation - Causes, objectives, subject of legal protection, position in the system of environmental law - Legal regulation of protection of fauna and flora in the framework of trade in endangered species under CITES - Legal regulation of habitat, ecosystem and landscape protection - Conventions on nature protection of hard law, soft law - Global, regional agreements, bilateral nature - Action programmes and strategies for nature protection - Governmental and non-governmental organisations in the field of nature protection - Implementation of obligations from the international regulation of nature protection by the Czech Republic - Legal regulation of nature protection in the European Union, basic principles, Primary and secondary sources - Natura 2000 system in the EU and the Czech Republic - Species and territorial protection in Czech legislation - Legal regime for the operation of zoos and rescue stations - Impact assessment of projects and concepts on bird areas and sites of European importance - Case law of the European Court of Justice in the field of nature protection. Lectures: Discussion on current issues of nature protection legislation, practical examples of problem solving.

The aim of the course is to teach students the orientation in the legislation of nature conservation, to understand the basic concepts and approaches applied, to know the basic conventions and the current state of the legal regulation of nature conservation.

Advanced knowledge of concepts, international conventions, action programs and other aspects of nature conservation in the Czech Republic and the EU. Credit for attendance at the exercise (max. two absences), minimum 55% pass rate.
