Course content
Content of lectures: The course introduces students to the practical use of theoretical knowledge in the field of sustainability. It will enable obtaining a broader overview of the use of theoretical foundations. Students will not only have opportunity to meet experts, but also get an idea of their subsequent involvement in practice in the business or non-profit sector, the issues and current topics and trends addressed in the field of sustainability and the needs of society in this area. The lectures will take place in the range of 90 minutes with a subsequent seminar in the range of 180 minutes, a total of 8 times during the semester. In the current academic year, the following lecture topics will always be chosen in such a way that the individual lectures correspond as best as possible to the current trends in the field of sustainability. The first and last lecture will always be conducted only by the subject guarantor and their main goal will be the introduction/summary of the subject. As part of the summary of the subject, the key discussion will be on the theoretical starting points as preparation for the final thesis. 1. Introduction to the subject ? Introduction to the terminology of sustainable topics (SDG goals, CSR, circular economy, Greenwashing, offsetting); Society's expectations of sustainability topics, their genesis and sustainability experts' expectations of society and companies (course guarantor) 2. Evolution of sustainability from CSR to ESG, Sustainability as an opportunity for economic transformation (Lucie Mádlová, Asociace společenské odpovědnosti, Změna k lepšímu) 3. Sustainability in industrial practice (selected manager from industrial manufacturing companies, ideally holder of SDGs or ESG awards, WERO, BOSCH, Fronius, Swan cosmetics) 4. Sustainable topics in retail and food industry (selected manager from one of the national or corporate companies operating on the Czech market-COOP, TESCO, LIDL) 5. Non-profit organizations and their contribution to sustainability education (REUSE federation, Food banks, social entrepreneurship) 6. Sustainability as a marketing topic (Jiří Peroutka, Pavel Galík, Zuzana Holá) 7. Sustainability in the context of EU requirements and ESG reporting, governance as one of the important aspects of sustainability ? responsible management of companies and companies (Veronika Soukupová, Chamber of Auditors of the Czech Republic, Fair Venture, Peter Chlupianský) 8. Circular economy and its practice (Cyrkl, Incien, Soňa Klepek Jonášová, Kabinet CB) 9. Issues of carbon footprint calculation (VŠCHT, GreenOmeter) 10. Biodynamic, permaculture and sustainable agriculture and nature care (permaculture and biodynamic farmers/producers, local organic producers, Sonnentor) 11. Sustainable care of public space and landscape, permaculture landscaping, sustainable gardens and parks in urban space, environmental aspects of smart cities (Institut plánování a rozvoje hlavního města Prahy, Středočeské inovační centrum, ČVUT, Český permakulturní institut) 12. Discussion with theoretical starting points in the field of sustainability and ideas obtained from the lectures (subject guarantor) Content of tutorials/seminar: The seminars will follow up the lectures as discussions on the discussed topics and specific issues/areas.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to connect theoretical knowledge from the areas of sustainability in its environmental, social and governance aspects through lectures and seminars led by experts from practice. The goal is for students to acquire the ability to discuss practical and theoretical knowledge and to gain a holistic and conceptual overview of sustainability in practice.

Assessment methods and criteria
unspecified
Min. participation 80%. Elaboration of an essay on the topic of one of lectures. The comparison of theoretical knowledge with the experience of an expert in practice and one's own reflection on the issue of the topic will be evaluated. A discussion between the theoretical foundations of the problem and practical experience is essential. The scope of the essay is at least 3 standard pages.
