Course content
1. Working with data, statistics, small data, big data 2. Quantitative research: characteristics and steps 3. Concepts, indicators, measurement 4. Correlation, not causation 5. Types of variables and their transformations 6. Graphical and numerical description of data distribution 7. Exercises with numbers: how to compare 8. Statistics and societal phenomena (GDP, unemployment) 9. Hypothesis testing and basic statistical methods

Learning outcomes
What is big data? Is it fairer to add the same number of crowns or the same percentage? How is GDP calculated? This course will help you answer these and other everyday questions where statistics meet. The aim of the course is to deepen your knowledge of quantitative research for use in everyday life, social work and scientific practice. Learners will learn how to observe and interpret statistical data and methods. They will learn to work with different data sources. The main emphasis will be on learning a practical statistical way of thinking. In mathematical skills, knowledge of the trinomial is assumed.
To be able to work with tables, graphs and common statistical data mentioned in the media, to acquire a statistical way of thinking.
