Course content
1. Basic characteristics of qualitative social science research 2. Basic and applied research: design, specifics, and general procedures 3. Qualitative research design, research project proposal, key steps in research 4. Ethnographic, anthropological, and sociological qualitative research: specifics and possibilities 5. Topic selection, literature review, non-probability sampling 6. Data collection methods through observation and interviews (ethnographic, narrative, semi-structured, and group) 7. Selected methods of data analysis (narrative research, grounded theory, thematic, content, and discursive analysis) 8. Basics of coding 9. Basics of coding 10. Ethics of qualitative research 11. Final presentation of projects 12. Final presentation of projects 13. Final test

Learning outcomes
The course will introduce the general basic steps involved in qualitative research and its design. Students will learn to distinguish between applied and basic research, gain an overview of key procedures and methods of field research, beginning with scholarly data collection, types of data, research sample construction, and a basic overview of the possibilities of qualitative data analysis in ethnography, anthropology, and sociology. Closer attention will be paid to methods of data collection through observation and interviews. Students will also become familiar with basic procedures in the data coding process. They will also be introduced to basic ethical issues in qualitative research.
