Learning outcomes
The course deals with the possibilities and limits of using spiritual assessment in assessing client's life situation. The starting point of spiritual assessment is the assumption that spirituality is an anthropological constant, i.e. each person has a certain spirituality, which is the source of his/her values and motivations. In the process of social work, client's values and motivations can both support the search for a solution to his/her life situation and lead to its deterioration. Spiritual assessment, therefore, allows social worker to identify the main elements of client's spirituality and assess its impact on his/her life situation: whether it can be used as a "support system" to solve it, or is risky for the client and threatens to solve his/her life situation. Spiritual assessment is in no way conditioned by the degree of spirituality and religiosity in society. Nevertheless, due to the specific concept of religiosity and spirituality in the Czech environment, emphasis will be placed on such concepts of spiritual assessment, which focus on postmodern spirituality and diffuse religiosity and/or spirituality, which are often referred to as spirituality of the holistic spectrum. Therefore, the subject will deal with such concepts of spiritual assessment which use elements of ethnographic methodological approaches: The client is understood as a "cultural guide" who teaches and guides the social worker through his/her "world" and his/her "subculture", respectively his/her spirituality. Therefore, the social worker asks complex questions within the spiritual assessment, pays attention to the culturally conditioned specific meanings of general concepts and seeks their clarification in the dialogue with the client. The assessment of the client's life situation is closely connected with the intervention of the social worker. Therefore, even within the subject, the spiritual assessment will be understood as closely connected with the subsequent intervention, which will be based on it.
Course graduate: - understands the terms spirituality, religiosity, spiritual assessment, spiritually sensitive social work, spiritually oriented social work, pastoral care, - is familiar with the issues of spirituality and religiosity in Europe and the Czech Republic, understands the cultural and historical context, knows the basic demographic facts, - is able to perform spiritually sensitive social work within the assessment of the client's life situation, - is familiar with religious discourse so that he/she can delegate the client to pastoral professions, - masters the basics in the issue of spiritually oriented social work (assessment of life situation, intervention).
