Course content
The course aims to support students's ability to critically reflect on individual areas of human life and related ethical issues that arise in the context of social work or in connection with it with regard to the holistic conception of man and Christian anthropology. Reflected seminar topics: 1) Competences of social workers in the spiritual area (within the requirement of a comprehensive approach to the client) 2) Ambivalence of experiencing the spiritual, religious dimension of human (perspectives, risks) 3) Ethical issues of parenthood and upbringing (responsible parenting, social issues of the family) 4) Health and illness (diversity of concepts), the problem of suicide (possibilities of prevention), addictions - ethical issues 5) Prenatal phase of life [bioethical issues, the importance of social work (counseling centres, centres for mothers with children, baby boxes, etc.)] 6) Ethical issues related to dying and death (euthanasia, dual effect principle, palliative and hospice care, etc.) 7) Sexuality and integrity (homosexuality, transsexuality, gender - ethical issues) 8) The right to truth in the field of health care and social work (right to truth, reputation, truth and lie)

The goal of this course is to introduce the student to the holistic conception of human being, with the accent of spiritual level; to the special ethical questions connected with social work (life, death, sexuality, society, politics, economics).

Assessment methods and criteria

After consulting with the teacher, the student chooses one of the expert topics for professional processing. The professional essay must be prepared in the form of a seminar work (introduction, division of the text (chapters, or subchapters), conclusion, work with literature, i.e. references, range of 3-5 pages of A4 format). The student submits the essay to the teacher in the credit week for assessment. The announcement of regular and corrective terms of credits and their organisation takes place according to the Study and Examination Rules of the USB and the related provisions of the Dean of the FT of USB (documents are published on the faculty website, Study section and Official Board).
