Course content
|
1. Introduction to Social Work and definition of basic concepts. 2. Concept of Social Work (social functioning, life situations, Social Work paradigms, dilemmas of contemporary Social Work). 3. Development of Social Work and historical context. 4. Character of theories in Social Work, assessment and choice of theories. 5. Theories important for Social Work. 6. Personality of a Social Worker. 7. Identity of Social Work. 8. Ethical aspects of Social Work, values in Social Work.

Learning outcomes
|
- definition and understanding of the basic concepts of Social Work, - getting familiar with the target groups of Social Work, - presenting the historical development of Social Work here and abroad, - to get an overview of basic selected theories of Social Work, - learning the specific daily work of a Social Worker, - understanding the meaning of the relationship between the Social Worker and the client, including his/her ethical aspects and demands on personality of Social Worker, - understanding the context of Social Work, social policy and related legislation, including public debate
Students will acquire the theoretical basis in the Social Work discipline. They will be able to specify and assess the historical, cultural and social context of the Social Work situation in the Czech Republic. The subject serves as a pre-understanding for other courses in the field of Social Work.

Prerequisites
|
No knowledge beyond the scope of entrance exam requirements is required for the course.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written examination, Student performance assessment, Interview, Seminar work
- regular attendance at seminars (max. 1 absence per semester), - studying of compulsory literature and study materials, - seminar papers on the history of social work - watching thematic videos, - participation in lectures with experts, - passing oral exam, In accordance with Article 24, paragraph 1, SZŘ JU, the student must obtain credits from this course in the first semester of study (within the required twenty credits). If credits for this course are not obtained in the first semester, it will be decided to terminate his/her studies (in accordance with Article 31, par. 1, letter a) SZŘ JU).
