Course content
Thematic areas: 1. Suárez's metaphysics as a science of being as a being: Within a given thematic field, questions related to Suarez's ontological variant of metaphysics will be discussed. Its ontological concept of metaphysics will be distinguished from other traditional concepts, such as the theological variant, the substance variant or the tomistic, so-called onto-theological variant. 2. Suárez's Concept of Being: Next, Suarez's specific concept of "internal analogy of attribution" will be introduced. It will be contrasted from Thomistic conception of the analogy of being, analogous to the analogy of proportionality. At the same time, Scotist inspiration of Suarez's concept of being is considered. 3. Suarez's general theory of transcendental properties: The term transcendental properties will be defined; It will be distinguished from the categorical (non-transcendental) property. The problem of the conceptual addition of the transcendental properties of the concept of being is considered. 4. Transcendental Unity: The fundamental characteristic of the conceptual addition of One Being will be studied; The basic typology of unity; Its relation to Many; The transcendental unity from the unity will be differentiated quantitatively. 5. Types of Transcendental Unity: The theme becomes the question of individual unity and universal unity. As part of the issue of individual unity, the themes of the question of the definition of individuality will be discussed; Of its ontological status; The problem of the principle of substance and accident perception. As part of the universal question, Suarez's version of moderate realism will be presented. 6. Transcendental Truth and Good: In the last seminar, the basic concepts of the conceptual addition of the Truth and the Good of Being will be discussed. The question of Truth will in particular concern the so-called "material falsity" that plays a significant gullet in Descart's epistemology. 7. Division of Metaphysics into General and Special Metaphysics: The theme will make Suarez's contribution possible to the division of metaphysics into general and special metaphysics. Consideration of rational psychology will be considered in a special metaphysics. 8. An Objective Concept of Being and Its Possible Impact on a "Mentalist" Concept of Metaphysics in Modern Times: Suarez's concept of the objective concept of the being and its possible influence on the "mentalist" concept of metaphysics at Descartes and Leibniz will be considered. 9. "Positivisation" of metaphysics: The theme will be the analysis of Suarez's concept of so-called potential beings. His concept will be compared to the concept of Leibniz and the concepts of other early modern philosophers who have made the subject of metaphysics an exclusively possible being. 10. Individuality and Early Leibniz: The relation between Suárez's concept of individuality and individuality (individuality "the whole entity") will be considered in relation to Leibniz's first topic on the subject of individuality. 11. Suarez's Concept of Substantial Unity of Material Matter and Leibniz: The Reification of Hymorphic Principles of Substance and Form, and Suarez's endeavor to ensure substantive unity of material composite will be compared with Leibniz's central philosophical endeavor to find true, ie, simple substance, substance. 12. Final Assessment of Suarez as a Possible "Grace Eminence" of Early Modern Philosophy: First of all, the basic objection will be considered that Suarez, in his metaphysics, "deviates" from God and conceives the basic metaphysical themes "etsi Deus non daretur".
