Course content
1. Marriage and family in changing society (definition of terms and the current effort to redefine them, the development that the family institution has undergone over the centuries) - marriage and family under the pressure of modern society - gender roles in the family - divorce (divorce in Scripture, in different cultures, the development in the modern age) 2. Marriage and family from a biblical perspective - marriage and family in the Old Testament - marriage and family in the New Testament - marriage as a legal relationship between a man and a woman 3. The Holy Trinity as a foundation and goal of family - family as an image and likeness of the Holy Trinity - the mystery of the family, which has its basis in the mystery of the life of the Trinity - marriage and family affected by the consequences of human sin 4. Family as a Home Church - family as "ecclesia mikra" - evangelistic aspect of married and family life - the importance of preparation for marriage 5. Marriage and family as a Christian calling - the mission of marriage is to be an image of the relationship between Christ and the Church - offspring - an essential goal of marriage

Learning outcomes
The seminar focuses on the evolution and current definition of the concept of family within the world and the church. The topic of marriage and family will be discussed from biblical and systematic theology, pastoral theology, and historical and psychological perspectives. Stances on family and marriage will also be discussed across various church traditions. During this course, students will learn about the interpretation of marriage and family within the Old and the New Testament, as well as individual approaches to this institution. At the same time, they will gain the ability to critically analyze academic texts and interpret them afterwards.
Students will learn to critically analyze current trends in marriage from biblical and theological perspectives.
