Course content
|
The course provides a comprehensive view of leisure from the perspective of various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences and introduces the impact of leisure on lifestyle, quality of life and social structures. Students are introduced to historical and contemporary perspectives on leisure in relation to defined functions and consequences. Attention is paid to current trends in leisure research in the various scientific disciplines.

Learning outcomes
|
The course aims to enable students to discover the complex relationship between work and leisure, activity and contemplation in history, and to provide a brief insight into contemporary leisure theory and research. The phenomenon of leisure is viewed primarily through historical, sociological and economic lenses.
The student will gain insight into leisure theory and research and understand basic concepts.

This course complements the topics covered in the course Pedagogy of leisure.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance assessment, Combined exam
The final part of the course will include a knowledge test summarizing the key concepts covered throughout the semester. Students will then choose a topic related to leisure studies, which they will elaborate on in a written academic paper. This topic will subsequently be presented at a joint colloquium, where students will demonstrate their understanding of the subject and their ability to communicate it clearly.
