1. The subject of psychology (historical development) 2. The paradigm of psychology: mental processes and dispositions, the system of mental reactions (experiencing and behaviour; personality structure) 3. Psychology as an empirical science (confrontation of scientific and lay psychology), basic patterns of the psyche and its methodology 4. Introduction to the theory of mental activity (universal laws) 5. System of psychological sciences (overview of basic and applied psychological sciences), possibilities of applying psychology in working with people 6. Biological and sociocultural determination of the human psyche 7. Mental processes: 1. Cognitive processes (perception, attention, imagination, thinking and speech, memory), 2. Emotions, 3. Motivation 8. Personality (psychological conception) 9. The self as the regulating centre of human mental life; ego-related motivation and world image formation 10. Mental properties of personality, their classification 11. Types and layers of personality 12. Intelligence 13. Emotionality and temperament 14. Motives 15. Attitudes 16. Character 17. Demanding life situations in interpersonal relationships (stress, frustration, inner conflicts, crises) 18. Psychological currents (especially with respect to theories of personality): psychoanalysis, behaviourism, humanistic psychology, cognitivist psychology, evolutionary psychology

Learning outcomes
|
The course aims to introduce the student to basic patterns of mental activity and personality. The student will thoroughly master the terminology and insight into mental phenomena with the goal of acquiring self-knowledge, application in interpersonal relations and professional activity.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination
Explaining the set question and reading the compulsory literature. Students are required to have at least 80% attendance at seminars. In case that they miss more hours, they have to write an essay consisting of standard page A4 (30 lines, 60 keystrokes), one page for each extra lesson they missed. Further information about the conditions of participation in the group seminars of dr. Hála and Mgr. Adámek will be sent to students at the beginning of the semester via email.
