Course content
Basic topics of religious pedagogy: 1) Definition of the basic concepts of religious pedagogy (anthropological aspects of religious faith, the subject of religious pedagogy, the phenomenon of religion in a broader and narrower definition, Christianity in the current context of Czech society). 2) Religious experience as a starting point for religious pedagogy (definition, features, types of religious experience). 3) Symbol as a religious form of speech (definition, symbol from the perspective of related scientific disciplines: philosophy, psychology, sociology, religious studies, theology and religious-pedagogical implications resulting from this interdisciplinary cooperation). 4) Didactic principles for the introduction to general religious and biblical forms of speech (myth, legend, parable, metaphor, simile). 5) The process of religious socialization (basic concepts, carriers of religious socialization, meaning of symbols and rituals). General didactics in religious pedagogy: 1) Changing paradigms of contemporary society and its influence on church catechesis, in comparison with religious education in state schools. 2) Current themes and goals of religious pedagogy in relation to the teaching of religion in schools. 3) Characteristics of the target groups of religious education (differentiation of the addressees of religious education, the role of the teacher of religion in the process of searching for identity in the society-wide environment, searching for and forming religious attitudes, the role of the teacher of religion in the process of forming the personality of the addressees) 4) Methods and didactic practices in working with religious topics. 5) Ethical learning in religious education (basic concepts, the relationship of contemporary society to ethical topics and to morality, developmental psychological models of the development of moral judgment, the course and methods of ethical learning).

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the analysis of the phenomenon of religion in culture and society and the implications of this for religious education and education with regard to a value-plural society. Students will be introduced to basic and advanced knowledge in the field of religious pedagogy, including its current trends. They will also acquire knowledge in general didactics for teachers of religion and catechists.
Students will learn the basic concepts of religious pedagogical thought and action. They will critically reflect on the arguments for the legitimacy of religious education with special reference to the Czech environment. They will learn about the form of religious education in history and reflect on the reasons for its relevance today.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Seminar work

Active participation in lectures (participation in discussions). Self-study of basic and recommended literature. Preparation of an essay that reflects on the issues of contemporary practice of religious education in the Czech Republic and Europe. Seminar paper on a selected topic (based on the study of relevant literature and reflection on experience from own pedagogical practice).
