Course content
1. Nature of Biblical ethics; 2. DVarious approaches to Biblical ethics: 2.1 Negative approaches 2.2 Positive approaches 2.2.1 Direct application 2.2.2 Allegory 2.2.3 Searching for principles, analogies, and values 2.2.4 Unifying ethical themes 2.2.5 Paradigms 2.2.6 Character formation 3. Synchronic view: Criteria according the Document by Ponticfical Biblical Institute "The Bible and Morality" 4. Practical examples 4.1 Foreigners 4.2 Abortion

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Work with text (with textbook, with book)
Learning outcomes
Presentation of biblical ethical system(s) and introduction to the biblical ethical thought.
Student will be acquainted with ethical questions raised by OT a NT texts and with the various ways, how they are solved in the Bible.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the Bible. It may be supported by another course, e.g. "Bible", offered by the same department.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Test

The student will read the following texts: - the whole document "The Bible and Morality" written by Pontifical Biblical Commission; - the first part of the book by Kyle D. Fedler "Exploring Christian Ethics: Biblical Foundations for Morality" (i.e. the pages 3-48). The student will choose also one otf the following chapters of the Fedler's bok (i.e. chs. 4-10). According to the chosen genre, teh student will choose a respective biblical text. During the oral exam, the student will 1) show his/her knowledge of the content of the texts; 2) show his/her understanding of the texts by interpreting the chosen biblical text according to the guidelines provided by Fedler and by the Pontifical Biblical Commission.
