Course content
1. Be the Church in the contemporary world! " What does it mean to be the Church? " Signs of the time at the beginning of the third millennium (globalization, multiculturalism, migration, pluralism of values, impacts of modernity...) " Be the Church in the age of individualization. 2. 2nd Vatican council and its ecclesiology " Gaudium et Spes " Lumen Gentium 3. Method using models in theology - short introduction 4. Models of the Church according to Cardinal Avery Dullese S.J. " Church as institution (institutional model) " Church as mystical society (communional model) " Church as sacrament (sacramental model) " Church as herald (kerygmatic model) " Church as servant (diaconal model) " Church as community of disciples (discipleship model) 5. Closing comparative overview and critical evaluation.

Learning outcomes
The goal of this course is to acquaint students with the variety of "Christian church" phenomena in the form of comparative overview. The church will be investigated through the paradigm of the main ecclesiological models as appeared in the books of cardinal Avery Dulles S.J. The course allows students to get insights into the church as a plural concept having an important role in the contemporary world society. Ecumenism and conclusions of the 2nd Vatican council will be on agenda of this course.
Student will gain knowledge about function of Christian churches in the contemporary society and will have ability to compare the main contemporary models of the Christian church.

Written examination, Essay

1. Ability to work with literature in English language. 2. Written scientific essay - extension 5 pages. Themes for essays are pre-set up by lecturer according to themes of the course and will be at student's disposal at the beginning of the course. 3. Written exam.
