Learning outcomes
1 140 / 5 000 Výsledky překladu The course is aimed at gaining a basic orientation in church history from the beginning of the first to the end of the twentieth century. The student will gain knowledge about the history of Christianity and the development of the church, mainly in the Western cultural context, with emphasis on socio-cultural-political context and links with the fields of theology, religion and philosophy. The course consists of nine larger thematic blocks. These blocks are the same for all forms of study: 1. History of the Church until 313 2. The first six ecumenical councils and their teachings 3. The Church in the early Middle Ages - the end of antiquity, the spread of Christianity to new nations in the 4th - 7th century 4. The Church in the early Middle Ages - from the 8th century to the beginning of the 11th century 5. The Church in the High Middle Ages - from the Gregorian reform to the Avignon exile 6. The Church in the 14th and 15th centuries: the papacy of Avignon, the great papal schism, conciliarism, the Renaissance papacy 7. The Church in the 16th to 18th centuries: the Reformation and the Catholic Reformation, from the Baroque to the Enlightenment, missions 8. The Church in the 19th century: from the French Revolution to the end of the 19th century 9. The Church in the 20th century.
The student will gain knowledge about the history of Christianity and the development of the church, mainly in the Western cultural context, with emphasis on socio-cultural-political context and links with the fields of theology, religion and philosophy.

The course has no prerequisites.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Lectures are supplemented by self-study of recommended literature and subsequent individual consultations according to the student's needs to successfully understand the more complex parts of the studied issues. Possibility of communication with the teacher's email or using e-learning. The course does not presuppose any input knowledge beyond the requirements of the admission procedure. The student's individual work consists in self-study of recommended literature. The student checks the acquisition of knowledge on the basis of answering control questions for individual topics of study support. During the oral exam, the student will be asked ten questions (see Control questions and assignments in the Study Support). If 60% of them answer correctly, the exam will be graded "good", with each additional question answered, the student's grade will be improved by a grade (very good minus, very good, excellent minus, excellent).
