Course content
|
I. Patristics (the introduction into the study of the Church fathers); II. Early Christian literature (Apostolic and Post-Apostolic Fathers); III. Early Christian literature in the period of persecution (the Greek Apostles, heretic and anti-heretic literature, early Christian schools, the beginnings of Latin Christian literature); IV. Literature in the Imperial Church (the Imperium, the patriarchal systems, Synods, Arianism, Exegesis, Monasticism); V. Latin Christian litararure in the period of the 5th-8th centuries (Africa, The Iberian Peninsula, Italy, Gallia, England, Ireland, Germany); VI. Early Christian Literature in the East in the period of the 5th-8th centuries (Constantinople, Syria, Palestine, Alexandria, Egypt, Armenia).

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to introduce some important topics of the time of patristics.
Students gain general knowledge of the problems of patrology. The course enables them to work with theological texts of Early Christian authors and to interpret the ideas of these authors with respect to the history of theology and spirituality.

Prerequisites
|
Basic knowledge of philosophy and theology.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination
Students will prove their knowledge of the Early Christian authors: the biography, the works and the theological thinking.
