Course content
From an environmental point of view, it deals with the issue of soil quality and basic types of soil degradation. The issues of acidification and alkalization of soils, salinisation, intoxication of soils with potentially hazardous elements and organic hazardous substances are discussed. Issues of physical degradation are also important - erosion and soil compaction. Attention is paid to the monitoring of contaminants in soils, the use of geographic information systems in soil monitoring, approaches to improving and restoring soil quality, soil protection and amending laws. Soil is a revitalized environment, and therefore considerable attention is paid to the cycles of elements, decomposition of organic matter and other processes in which the activity of edaphon is important. Its meaning is analyzed in more detail according to the basic groups

Learning outcomes
The aim of the study is to deepen theoretical knowledge in the field of soil ecology and research methods in pedology and soil ecology, analysis and evaluation of soils and to gain the ability to use them effectively and sustainably.

Prerequisites
The discipline follows the basic course in pedology and deepens the individual chapters.
