Course content

Birds and Man - Introduction. Breeding equipment, location. Food, basic nutrition principles. Hygiene principles of breeding, overview of basic diseases (prevention, diagnostics, treatment), care of bird health, principles of manipulation with them. Reproduction in captivity - general basics of care for nesting birds. List of individual groups of breeding birds with specifics of their biology and breeding: Anseriformes, Galliformes, Columbiformes, Psittaciformes, Apodiformes, Piciformes, Passeriformes - Emberizidae, Fringillidae, Estrildidae, Ploceidae, Sturnidae, Timaliidae, Corvidae.

Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to give an overview of the main topics about the breeding of birds: breeding facilities, location, food, basic principles of nutrition, breeding hygiene, care of bird health, principles of manipulation with birds, reproduction in captivity - general principles of care for nesting birds. An overview of biology and the specific requirements of individual orders: Anseriformes, Galliformes, Columbiformes, Psittaciformes, Apodiformes, Piciformes, Passeriformes - Emberizidae, Fringillidae, Estrildidae, Ploceidae, Sturnidae, Timaliidae, Corvidae.
