Course content
|
The aim of the course is a basic orientation in non-European art, arts and crafts of folk, ethnic and authorial character and to gain an overview of information sources. Basic issues of cultural development (cultural changes): cultural geographical areas, cultural and historical stages and characteristic styles of creation of native societies in Africa, America, Asia and Oceania with emphasis on the period of the 19th, 20th and 2nd. century. Basic classification of artifacts into categories in connection with used materials and production processes and in terms of their utilitarian, artistic, social and ritual-religious functions and symbolism. Debatability of the concepts of tradition, traditional art, tribal art versus high art. Artistic production as a source of ethnic and national identity. Differences in creation for one's own company and in production for collectors and tourists and new trends in non-European production oriented towards the European market. Principles and problems of monument protection in the countries of origin of artifacts.

Prerequisites
|
At least 80% attendance at seminars, seminar work, knowledge of phytogeography and zoogeography, plant systematics, animal systematics.
