Course content
|
Biochemical mechanisms of action of toxic substances, biotransformation of toxins in the organism. Examples of pharmacological effects in the organism. Cumulation of toxic substances in food chains. Possible effects of toxic effects of pesticides and other substances in plants and animals. Mycotoxins, potential source of feed intoxication. Microbial toxins. Plant toxins - overview, important groups with regard to plant species in collections and plants as a potential source of intoxication of "hobby" animals. Animal toxins: significance, enlargement, Invertebrate and Vertebrate toxins, their characteristics and specifics.

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of toxicology with an overview of the main groups of microbial, plant, fungal and animal toxins, biochemical mechanisms of effects of toxic substances. Principles of work safety with toxins and poisonous organisms.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of plant physiology, animal physiology and taxonomy of presented groups.

Knowledge of the basic toxicology with an overview of the main groups of microbial, plant, fungal and animal toxins, biochemical mechanisms of effects of toxic substances. Principles of work safety with toxins and poisonous organisms - plants and animals mainly invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles.
