Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with an overview of environmental chemistry and basic biogeochemical cycles. The following lessons are focused on instrumental analytical methods: electroanalytical (potentiometry, ion selective electrodes, voltametry), spectroscopy (atomic, molecular) separation (chromatography, electrophoresis).
Students gain knowledge enabling them to understand chemical and biological relationships of environmental processes and changes. Ability to communicate with analytical laboratories, to understand the analytical results, ability to apply knowledge in other chemical and related disciplines.
Prerequisites
The fundamentals of environmental chemistry, toxicology, and biology. Analytical chemistry.
Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam
Commanding of the basics of selected parts of analytical chemistry with respect to the necessary understanding of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. Comprehension of the basics of chemistry of the individual environmental compartments based on previous knowledge of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry and biochemistry as well on biological basics of ecology and ecotoxicology.
