Course content
|
Natural water systems, surface waters, underground waters. Physical properties of water solutions. Chemical thermodynamics, equilibria and rates of chemical processes in natural water systems. Equilibria liquid - gas, dissolution of gases in liquids. Acidobasic equilibria in natural waters. Adsorption equilibria. Equilibria of complexes. Redox equilibria. Composition of natural waters - inorganic and organic components. Organic carbon, methods for its quantitative determination. Pollution of water ecosystems, possibilities of their control and prevention.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is aimed to provide a detail overview about chemical composition of different types of natural waters, as well as chemical processes affecting the composition and properties of water systems, and the most important analytical methods used in hydrochemistry.
After successful passing the course, students are expected to gain advanced and complex knowledge about chemical composition of different types of natural waters, as well as chemical processes affecting the composition and properties of water systems, and the most important analytical methods used in hydrochemistry. The acquired knowledge may be employed in other chemistry disciplines and related fields (both in teaching or research/commercial laboratories).

Knowledge of inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry gained during bachelor and master studies.
