Learning outcomes
|
The goal of the course is to extend and deepen the knowledge of organic chemistry acquired at the secondary school with focusing on natural substances as a necessary theoretical basis for the study of biochemistry and related subjects. The lectures are structured into three themes: theoretical basis, systematic part, natural substances and organic contaminants and pollutants. In particular systematic groups, emphasis is given on the effect of various functional groups on physical, chemical, and biological properties of compounds.
After successful passing the course, students are expected to be familiar with main classes of organic compounds, their nomenclature and physical, biological and chemical properties. The acquired knowledge may be employed in other chemistry disciplines and related fields (both in research and commercial laboratories).
