Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide a theoretical base of toxicology. The course begins with the basic definitions; the subsequent lectures are aimed at the individual chapter of the general toxicology - mechanism of effect, pharmacokinetics, analysis, first aid, legal enactment. In the special part the poisons leading to the intoxication in most cases and the most dangerous poisons are stressed (carbon monoxide, ethanol, drugs, medicaments, plant poisons, chemical warfare substances, inorganic poisons). The course is finished by an examination.
Ability to communicate with toxicological workplaces and to understand their findings; ability to transformate knowledge of toxicology to the school system; ability to apply knowledge in other chemical and related disciplines.
Prerequisites
recommended knowledge of high school chemistry.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Commanding of the basics of selected parts of toxicology with respect to the necessary knowledge for security of work in laboratory and for future teachers.
