Course content
Biodiversity - definition and importance. Genetic principles of biodiversity, practical use. Contemporary status of farm animal and plants species. Activities in preservation of farm animal amnd plant species, breeds, varieties. Definition, importance of local breeds and varieties. Their historic, social importance. Local breeds and varieties in Middle Europe. Geneticanalyses of biodiversity. National program of gene resources preservation in the Czech Republic. Global strategies in different states and regions.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Individual tutoring
  • Preparation for credit - 20 hours per semester

  • Semestral paper - 30 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
Analysis of genetic diversity, methods of evaluation. Conservation programs in the Czech Republic.
Importance of diversity for future breeding. Ability to analyse and evaluate the diversity in animals and plants, design the methods for saving. Programs of preservation in the Czech Republic.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of genetics, esp. population genetics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Interview, Combined exam

Active participation in exercises, protocols from laboratory exercises, understanding the curriculum defined for the exam.
