Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to expand knowledge and skills in breeding livestock. Specific attention will be paid to the use of existing central databases of breeding institutions for estimating genetic parameters of populations and breeding values for individual performance traits. Teaching will also focus on the basics of genetic and economic evaluation of individuals and populations based on the control of performance and DNA information, monitoring the flow of genes in animal populations over time. Genetic and economic optimizations in the process of breeding and hybridization. The course requires knowledge of the basics of genetics, statistics and computer skills.
The student understands the processes of heredity and variability and can assess the breeding value of individuals based on their origin.
Prerequisites
Předmět vyžaduje znalost základů genetiky, statistiky a dovednost v ovládání výpočetní techniky.
