Course content
1. Chemical components of nucleic acids, sugar components, bases, nucleosides, nucleotides. 2-3. Deoxyribonucleic acids, chemical structure, supercoiled formation. 4-5. Ribonucleic acids. RNA biosynthesis, transcription unit, promoters and their structure, transcription origin, terminators, mono- and polycistronic units. 6. Transcriptional apparatus of posttranscriptional editing. 7-8. Protein biosynthesis, genetic code, initiation, termination codons, modified nucleosides in the anticodon loop, suppressors, ORF, the universality of the code. 9-10. Translational apparatus. DNA biosynthesis, replication units, replication apparatus, Okazaki fragments, DNA polymerases. 11-12. Regulatory mechanisms, regulatory genes and their products, positive and negative regulation, activation and repression. 13-14. Regulation at the posttranscriptional, translational, posttranslational level, methods of regulation

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to gain knowledge about biopolymers, their structure and function - gene expression and their regulation. Modification of genetic information.
Basis of molecular biology for subsequent study of gene engineering, biotechnologies etc.

genetics - GEN or genetics - GENZO

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Active participation in exercises, protocols from laboratory exercises, understanding the curriculum defined for the exam.
