Course content
|
Molecular, cellular and mendelian genetics. Gene maps. Mutation. Genetics of quantitative traits and populations. Genetic parameters of populations. Genetic background of important traits. Genetic markers, detection of QTL, candidate genes. Goal and methods of breeding, conventional and new. Biotechnology and molecular biology in animal breeding. Genomics in breeding. Biodiversity and gene sources in animal breeding.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim is to give the general knowledge on trends in genetics, gene analysis of farm animals, genetic background of important traits, and practical use of genetics and genomics in animal breeding. The content will be specified individual for any postgraduate student accorording to the topic of the thesis. The course could be focused to genetics of cattle, pig, horse, sheep, goat, microorganisms etc.
Knowledge in special fields of genetics according to the disertation focus.

Genetics, population genetics, animal breeding.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Combined exam, Seminar work
Knowledge of general genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, population genetics, animal breeding. The student must be able to develop the knowledge in genetics in direction of his disertation. Seminar work.
