Course content

Soil fauna and flora and its effects in the soil environment. Breakdown of soil organisms by size and representatives of the main groups of soil organisms. Conditions of existence and development of edaphon, abiotic and biotic factors influencing their development and state of populations. Influence of edaphon on the transformation of soil organic matter, nutrient cycle, physical properties of soil and soil fertility. Influence of edaphon on nutrient accessibility, nutrient transport in the soil environment and in the soil - plant system. Emphasis will be placed on new findings from the scientific literature for the soils of the Central European region and with regard to the topic of doctoral studies.

Learning outcomes
Subject of the doctoral study program. The aim is to acquaint the student with the biological component of the soil environment, micro to macrofauna and the function of edaphobionts in the soil environment. Effect of soil biota on the conversion of organic matter, humus production, nutrient cycles, nutrient release and nutrient access to plants. Emphasis is placed on new findings from soil biology, including data from the world scientific literature.
Ability to work with scientific literature, including foreign ones. Ability to analyze and synthesize the studied issues.
Prerequisites
Completion and successful completion of master's (engineering) studies.
Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam
The student must demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the studied subject matter in the form of an oral or combined exam. Demonstration of knowledge in a credit test or submission of a semester work to the required extent may also be a requirement.
