Course content
Definition of disease, classification of diseases, etiology of infectious diseases, characterization and classification of plant disease factors (viruses and viroids, phytoplasms, spiroplasms, phytopathogenic bacteria, fungi-like organisms - Protozoa and Chromista and fungi), taxonomy, reproduction of pathogens, life cycles of pathogens, infectious cycle, sources of inoculum and methods of pathogen survival, transmission and propagation of pathogens, interactions between pathogens and plants, symptoms and diagnostics, ecology, infection and pathogenesis, epidemiology of pathogenic organisms, environmental impact on disease development.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
  • Preparation for credit - 10 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 30 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 30 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with general aspects of plant pathology, ie classification of diseases, pathogen - host interactions, structure of cycles of infection; biology, morphology, anatomy and taxonomic characteristics of individual groups of plant pathogens.
Students are able to orientate in the field of viruses, bacteria and fungal pathogens of plant diseases.
Prerequisites
Standard knowledge of biology and microbiology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Active participation in tutorials and understanding the curriculum defined for the exam.
