Course content
Biology, growth and development, cultivar composition, crop management and growing conditions of minority cereals and pseudocereals (durum wheat, spelt, buckwheat, millet, sorgum, amaranth). Conditions of growing, biology and crop management of minority legumes (broad bean, lupines, lentil, common bean). Biology and problematic of soybean production in conditions of the Czech Republic. Biology and crop management of mustard plants and other alternative oil plants and their utilization. Biology, crop management and processing of fibre flax and oil flax. Crop management of technical hemp. Importance, biology, agro-ecological conditions and crop management of hop - problematic of hop-field as permanent plantation. Biology and crop management of Jerusalem artichoke - possibility of tubers processing and utilization. Biology and crop management of chicory and other tuber crops (mangel beet, carrot etc.).

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
  • Preparation for credit - 10 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 50 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 56 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of this study course is to obtain knowledges about importance, biology, and crop management of minority and special crops cultivated in conditions of the Czech Republic.
Students are able to orientate in the field of minority and special crops - list of cultivated species, knowledge of their importance, biology, crop management and use possibilities.
Prerequisites
Standard knowledge of field crop management.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Active participation in consultation, understanding the curriculum defined for the exam.
