Course content
1. Definition of terms and classification of diseases 2. Viruses, viroids and their transmission 3. Phytopathogenic bacteria - including symptomatology 4. Fungi and fungal organisms 5. Taxonomy of fungal pathogens 6. Diagnosis of plant pathogens, 7. Infection and pathogenesis 8. Cereals, Part 1, 9. Cereals, Part 2, 10. Oilseeds, 11. Pulses, 12. Root crops, 13. Ways and methods of plant protection against infectious diseases 14. Preparation of media and cultivation of samples for the detection of plant pathogens, isolation, cultivation and diagnosis of plant pathogens by light microscopy

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
  • Preparation for exam - 50 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 30 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 56 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 20 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to general aspects of phytopathology, i.e. classification of diseases, pathogen-host interactions, structure of the infection cycle, biological, morphological, anatomical and taxonomic characteristics of individual groups of plant pathogens and at the same time to introduce students to the most important diseases of basic groups of cultivated crops including their protection.
Knowledge of pathogens causing diseases of field crops, vegetables and fruit trees.

Knowledge of biology and botany

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Active participation in exercises, protocols from laboratory exercises, student project, and understanding of the curriculum defined for the exam.
