Course content
|
1. History of beekeeping, the development of beekeeping in Czechia. 2. External and internal morphology of honey bee. 3. Physiology and biology of honey bee. 4. Honey bee colony. 5. Animal husbandry measures in beekeeping. 6. Beekeeping year. 7. Honey bee forage and its sources. 8. The nutrition and feeding of honey bee. 9. Honey bee diseases, its prevention and therapy. 10. Honey bee breads and related insect species of Apidae family. 11. Honey bee breeding and basics of genetics. 12. Honey bee products, its collection and characteristics. 13. Legislation in beekeeping. 14. Alternative polluters rearing of bumble bees and solitary bees.

Learning outcomes
|
The main objective of course is to introduce the students with honey bee biology and principles of honey bee colony functioning as a living organism. Main focus will be given at animal husbandry measures in beekeeping, ways of beekeeping and gathering of bees products and also breeding. The acquired knowledge then creates logically connected complex, and it is possible to practically use this experience in rearing of honey bee.
Student will acquire basic knowledge about the biological essence of the colony, basic honey bee husbandry methods, as well as honey bee products and their processing.

Basic knowledge of biology, zoology, general zootechnics and genetics.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Combined exam, Test
Course credit award: Active participation in practical excercises (max. 1 excused absence) 3 credit tests, 2nd, 3rd and 4th lesson (70 %) Exam: Writing test (70 %) + exam.
