Course content
The health status of animals as a basic presumption of healthy, hygienic and biologically intact animal products and economical prosperity of animal breeding. Health problems in cattle breeding. Causes of mortality in calves. Etiology and prevention of organ and metabolic diseases in ruminants. Diseases of mammary gland in cows, etiology and prevention. Contagious diseases in ruminants. Animal health programmes and projects. Diseases and losses in piglets. Actual infectious diseases in swine breeding, prevention. Poultry, health problems in poultry breeding. Horses, health problems in horse breeding, diseases of musculoskeletal system, digestive system, infectious diseases, prevention. Mink and foxes, fish, bees, health problems and prevention.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to obtain an overview of significant problems addressed in the protection of livestock health in relation to the quality of animal products. During the course, the emphasis is placed on the basic legislative requirements for the breeding of livestock, care about their health and production usability and practices for their use as a source of quality and safe food. During the course, the most common health problems in individual species of animals, their detection, preventive measures and possible solutions will be referred to.
The student will gain knowledge in the field of legislative requirements for the protection of livestock health and related subsequent quality effects on animal products. They will be introduced to the most common health problems of livestock, their diagnosis, prevention and solutions.

Knowledge of animal breeding technology

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Active participation in the consultations, and preparation of seminar work.
