The course provides the knowledge and skills necessary for a basic orientation in Greek-Latin professional terminology. Emphasis is placed on lexical and grammatical features of medical terminology, especially in the fields of 1) anatomy, 2) physiology and pathology, 3) diagnostics and therapy. Only those grammatical phenomena that influence the formation of professional terminology are selected (especially the flexion of nouns and adjectives and the formation of compound words). A knowledge of basic vocabulary and understanding Czech professional terminology is a prerequisite for studying other medical disciplines. The course also supports verbal logic, cultivates the sense for language, and refines speech.
The student: - masters basic Latin grammar and vocabulary. - adequately uses Latin terminology in pre-clinical disciplines. - precisely defines anatomical structures and pathological states
