Course content
Main topics of lectures 1. History of psychology as a field, its main questions. (1 hour) 2. Main Concept of Psychology (1 hour) 3. Current main subdivisions of psychology. (1 hour) 4. Freedom and determination, environment vs. heredity. (1 hour) 5. Social psychology. (1 hour) 6. Developmental psychology. Individual life stages, their specific needs. (1 hour) 7. Family psychology, substitute family care. (1 hour) 8. Psychosomatics, its basic concept. (1 hour) 9. Psychology of handicap. (1 hour) 10. Psychodiagnostics, its methods. (1 hour) 11. Psychopathology and psychiatry. (1 hour) 12. Psychotherapy. Definition, main concepts and directions. (1 hour) 13. Psychology and ethics, abuse of psychology. (1 hour) 14. Possibilities and limits of research in human sciences. (1 hour) Main topics of seminars 1. Psychology and social work. (1 hour) 2. Developmental psychology - specific needs in childhood and adolescence, possibilities of their fulfillment. (1 hour) 3. Developmental psychology - specific needs of seniors, possibilities of their fulfillment. (1 hour) 4. Specific needs and specific way of communication with handicapped people. (1 hour) 5. Specific needs and specific way of communication with mentally ill. (1 hour) 6. Communication in different situations (aggressive client, communication with family, communication in constitutional environment, in unfavorable development and prognosis, communication of adverse news,). (1 hour) 7. Psychodiagnostic methods, their possible use in social work, competence of social worker in psychodiagnostics. (1 hour) 8. Behavioral therapy in social work. (1 hour) 9. Client-oriented therapy in social work. (1 hour) 10. Transaction analysis in social work. (1 hour) 11. Art therapy in social work. (1 hour) 12. Supporting organizations, patient organizations, self-help groups. (1 hour) 13. Burnout syndrome, possibilities of prevention, so-called Balint groups. (1 hour) 14. Principles of psychohygiene, relaxation, autogenous training. (1 hour)

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to psychology as an independent science, the central one for the so-called "helping professions". Describes its themes, tools, and limits. It is conceived primarily practically, focused on the field work of a future social worker. Emphasis will be placed on developing the ability to think critically, in context.
- The student knows and understands the subject of psychology and its relation to other sciences, is able to theoretically describe the biological and social determination of man, the peculiarities of development in various developmental periods, the concept of mental health and quality of life, principles of communicating with these people. - The student is able to critically evaluate and search for information from the field of psychology, is able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice, is able to develop self-knowledge and learn about others and is able to communicate empatically with people in difficult life situations, with disability or mental disorder. They can apply the principles of mental hygiene in themselves and in their surroundings and are able to recognize the resources and limits of themselves.

General knowledge acquired in high school.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Student performance assessment

Attendance at seminars (at least 80%), active participation in seminars, seminar work. The exam will be in writing.
