Course content
Lectures 1.SS: 1. Introduction to medical psychology, subject and position of medical psychology in the system of psychological disciplines. 2. Psychological problems of the patient, definition of health and illness, illness as a psychological problem. 3. Personality characteristics of patients. Changes in behaviour and experience during the disease. Subjective experience of the disease. Attitudes towards disease. Limitation of the patient's life needs. 4. Pain, psychological means of pain relief. Fear and anxiety in illness. 5. Stressful situations and their solutions. 6. Illness as a difficult life situation. 7. Mental crisis, psychological first aid and intervention in crisis. 8. Personality qualities of a healthcare professional. 9. The relationship between healthcare provider and patient. 10. Iatropatogeny and psychological care of outpatients and hospitalized patients. Seminars: The seminars are designed for the use of achieved knowledge in the clinical practice of nutritional therapists, by means of solving case studies and model situations. 1. Basic communication skills in contact with patients. 2. Autoplastic picture of the disease. 3. Patient status. 4. Limited privacy and feelings of inferiority of the patient. 5. Psychological problems of hospitalization regarding age and illness. 6. Psychology of paediatrics. 7. Psychology of patients with chronic and oncological diseases. 8. Psychology of elderly patients and patients in the terminal stage. 9. Psychological problems of death and dying. 10. Psychological problems of disabled people.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the Social psychology course is to acquaint students with basic social psychological concepts, but also with the application of social psychology in the profession of nutritional therapist. Effective social communication will be emphasised and it will also be trained in seminars.
Students will gain knowledge about the psychology of patients. In this way, they can better understand the patient's mental state. Students will learn basic psychological concepts. They will also acquire effective and social communication.
