Course content
1. Concept of addiction. Terminology. 2. Classification of addictive drugs and forms of addiction. 3. Theory of addition occurrence. 4.Bio-psycho-socio-spiritual model of occurrence, development and maintenance of addiction. 5. Alcohol additions. 6. System of care of addicts. Addiction ambulatory and in-house therapies. 7. Therapeutic clubs and self-help organizations in addiction treatment. 8. "Harm reduction" program. History and current situation, program implementation in important institutions. 9. Metadone programs and other substitutions. Reasons of occurrence, objectives, means, procedures. 10. Issues of specific groups of addicts - children and youth, gravid drug users, seniors, homeless. 11. Addictive behavior. Gamblers, dependence on Internet. 12. Drug addiction prevention. Primary, secondary social prevention. 13. Social strategy of struggle against addictive drugs in relation to EU Action Plan. 14. Social work with addicts.

Learning outcomes
The objective is to recognize individual addictive drugs, intoxication symptoms, health risks of abuse. To get oriented in the system of care of addicts, understand specialties of treatment and in-house care of addicts in our country, treatment in daily social welfare centers, community treatment of addicts and issues of after-treatment care and programs. Introduce specific groups of addicts, people with addictive behavior, preventive activities and social work with addicts
The student is able to assist to risk-loaded population groups (addicted on habit-creating substances, in jails, after being released from jail, etc.) through knowledge and practical skills in the area of addiction, on the base of understanding the causes of origin, development and maintenance of social maladjustments, and subsequently find his or her way in preventive and complex programs of psycho-social assistance or possibly use such programs.
