WINTER COURSE Focus on Introduction to Psychology Main topics of lectures (considered as two-hour blocks) 1 lecture 2 hours 1. History of psychology as a field, its main questions 2. Main concepts of psychology 3. Current main subdivisions of psychology - overview 4. Social psychology 5. Psychology of personality 6. Cognitive psychology 7. Psychology of language, communication 8. Psychosomatics, its basic concept. Psychosocial determinants of health. 9. Psychology of handicap. 10. Psychodiagnostics, its methods 11. Psychopathology and psychiatry 12. Psychotherapy. Definition, main concepts and directions 13. Psychology and ethics, abuse of psychology 14. Possibilities and limits of knowledge and research in human sciences Main Seminar Topics - 1 seminar 1 hour 1. Psychology and social work 2. Psychodiagnostic methods, their possible use in social work, competence of social worker in psychodiagnostics 3. Quality of life questionnaires 4. Psychic support in crisis, crisis intervention. 5. Behavioral therapy in social work 6. Client-oriented therapy in social work. 7. Transaction analysis in social work 8. Art therapy in social work 9. Music therapy and drama therapy in social work 10. Logotherapy 11. Supporting organizations, patient organizations, self-help groups 12. Burnout syndrome, possibilities of psychohygiene, so called Balint groups 13. Principles of psychohygiene, relaxation, autogenous training 14. Syndrome of helping and professional deformation

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to psychology as an independent science, the central one for the so-called "helping professions". Describes its themes, tools, and limits. It is conceived practically, not theoretically, focused on the field work of a future social worker. Emphasis will be placed on developing the ability to think critically, in context.
Knowledge The student knows and understands the subject of psychology and its relation to other sciences, is able to theoretically describe human personality and its biological and social determination, structure and dynamics of human psyche, factors of psychological development, peculiarities of development in different developmental period, concept of mental health and quality of life psychology of a person with disability, social disadvantage and mental disorders, knows the principles of communication with these people and theoretically controls the strategy of solving difficult life situations. - Skills The student is able to critically evaluate and search for information from the field of psychology, is able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice, is able to develop self-knowledge and knowledge of others and can empathically communicate with people in difficult life situations, with a disability or mental disorder. They can apply the principles of mental hygiene in themselves and in their surroundings and are able to recognize the resources and limits of themselves.

High school general knowledge.

Seminar work

Attendance at seminars (at least 80%) active participation in them, seminar work.
