Course content
SUMMER COURSE - focus on developmental psychology Main topics of lectures 1 lecture 2 hours 1. Developmental psychology. Individual life stages, their specific needs. 2. Theories of development according to Freud, Piaget and Erikson 3. Freedom and determination, environment vs. heredity 4. Social constructivism, social contractionism, discourse theory 5. Family psychology 6. Gender issues 7. Substitute family care 8. Psychic deprivation 9. Identity of a child growing up in a constitutional environment or in a family not based on genetic links 10. School maturity, learning and behavior disorders, their diagnostics 11. Psychology of handicap 12. Diagnostics and treatment therapy options 13. Diagnostics and treatment options for aging and age related disorders 14. Psychology of addiction, alcohol, drug addiction and gambling Main seminar topics 1 seminar 1 hour 1. Developmental psychology - specific needs in childhood and adolescence, possibilities of their fulfillment 2. Developmental psychology - specific needs of seniors, possibilities of their fulfillment 3. Thanatology, communication with dying and their loved ones, hospice care 4. Therapy of physical and motor disorders 5. Therapy of mental development disorders 6. Therapy of personality disorders 7. Therapy of aging and age related disorders 8. Specific needs and specific way of communication with handicapped people 9. Specific needs and specific way of communication with mentally ill 10. Communication in different situations (aggressive client, communication with family, communication in constitutional environment, in unfavorable development and prognosis, communication of unfavorable news,) 11. Communication with victims of crime, communication with criminals. Domestic violence 12. Multicultural psychology, Communication with people from different cultural environment. 13. Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to psychology as an independent science, the central one for the so-called "helping professions". Describes its themes, tools, and limits. It is conceived practically, not theoretically, focused on the field work of a future social worker. Emphasis will be placed on developing the ability to think critically, in context.
Knowledge The student knows and understands the subject of psychology and its relation to other sciences, is able to theoretically describe human personality and its biological and social determination, structure and dynamics of human psyche, factors of psychological development, peculiarities of development in different developmental period, concept of mental health and quality of life psychology of a person with disability, social disadvantage and mental disorders, knows the principles of communication with these people and theoretically controls the strategy of solving difficult life situations. - Skills The student is able to critically evaluate and search for information from the field of psychology, is able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice, is able to develop self-knowledge and knowledge of others and can empathically communicate with people in difficult life situations, with a disability or mental disorder. They can apply the principles of mental hygiene in themselves and in their surroundings and are able to recognize the resources and limits of themselves.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Attendance at seminars (at least 80%) active participation in them, seminar work. The exam will be written and oral.
